Higher Education
Higher education is not compulsory, but it is seen as a helpful and useful phase in one’s life. There are literally hundreds of universities and colleges across the UK and are thousands across the World for students to choose from. Higher education is generally intended for students to consider who have completed their A levels and achieved the grades in order to be accepted be accepted. Therefore, most students are around the age of 18years old. However there are many cases where people can study as mature students, so is never an official age limit, just perhaps a social one.
A big part of higher education is the social side and the process of growing up. Whether people want to study from home, or live on campus and fully immerse themselves in the life a student is also up to the individual. However, no matter what they choose, people often say they really discovered themselves after attending university. They often say how they learnt a lot about themselves and how their best friends to date are those they met at university. So there is a lot to be said for university.
However the costs are very expensive, often leaving students with debts of up to £30,000. Therefore colleges and institutes may seem more appropriate, as they can be studied from home, so the cost of living is far less. Also these institutes often provide more specialist arts courses, which are very appealing to those who aren’t so concerned about achieving high academic awards, but awards in more specialist areas.
